Living on the Central Coast comes with many benefits, from the gorgeous beach views, stunning scenery and, of course, the beautiful weather day in and day out. Of course this weather does come at a price, but thanks to air conditioning the heat is now easy to escape. Of course, air conditioning wasn’t always around, even though many of us would find it hard to survive without it these days.
While there is evidence of interest in air conditioning as early as 1758, it was not until the 1900s that we first saw air conditioning as it is today. Invented by William Carrier in 1902, the system blew warm air over freezing coiled pipes. With this initial success for Carrier, he founded the Carrier Air Conditioning Company of America.
By 1914, air conditioning was appearing in people’s homes, and by 1931, H.H. Schultz and J.Q. Sherman invented units that cooled particular rooms in the house. Cars soon followed, with the first air conditioned one being invented in 1939. Then finally by the 1970s, AC units were seen to be rising in popularity, replacing window units.
Many of us would struggled today without access to air conditioning and rely on it on a day-to-day basis, whether it is to cool us down after a trip to the sandy shores on the Central Coast or to heat us up on a cold winter’s night.
